Things are heating up on Melbourne’s vegetarian food scene, with the birth of Transformer Bar and Restaurant, a sophisticated new sibling and neighbour to Veggie Bar in Fitzroy.
Taking it’s name from the old electrical transformer warehouse in which it sits, every dish at Transformer bursts with flavour and is like an artwork you dare not ruin… but will feel instantly glad when you do.
Serving up a variety of options for breakfast such as the house granola with morning salad, leatherwood labneh and milk, alongside fresh juices and Industry beans coffee.
The emphasis is on seasonal food and communal eating, with plates designed for sharing, allowing you to try as many things as you can.
Start with the pumpkin tahini dip and rye-quinoa crisps to get those taste buds firing. With so many delicious options, deciding what to get isn’t easy, but we couldn’t go past the green curried polenta with wild rice, vegies, thai pesto and
a coconut reduction, and the pièce de résistance: sprouted brown rice and beetroot risotto, with wild mushrooms and togarashi sure to set off an exquisite flavour explosion in your mouth.
And for dessert, how about chocolate buckwheat mouse with date syrup, chocolate sticks, tart berry sorbet and freeze dried raspberries? Yes, please!
As perfect for date night as it is for dinner with friends, even the most devout carnivores will be transformed with a new found appreciation for the delights of plant based cuisine.
