When I visited my life long friend Kate Dalheimer and her then boyfriend, Henry Dyer, in Dubai in 2008 they were in the very early stages of setting up a catering business. With a shared passion for food and hospitality, they saw an opportunity for western catering in the land of sand and I was full of admiration for this loved up twenty-something couple for giving it a crack.
Fastforward to today, the now married pair have two beautiful daughters (Lily & Olive), and are at the helm of Dubai’s most reputable boutique catering and events empire, Dish Catering & Events. Okay so I might be biased, but I was left in little doubt about Dish’s reputation among it’s local clientele when I met an English expat living in Dubai while on holiday in Thailand two years ago. When I mentioned Dish she quickly jumped in “oh yes, Dish is the most successful Australian business in Dubai.”
From humble beginnings Dish has morphed into a booming empire with more than 200 staff (including 60 full time) servicing up to 50 events per month across the United Arab Emirates. They’ve catered to the Prince of Monaco and Richard Branson on a private island, and even introduced Middle Eastern royal families to the concept of canapés.
Many would consider this “mission accomplished”, but not Kate & Henry. In recent years they’ve expanded into furniture hiring for events with Innovative Hiring, and are now introducing healthy, hot served meals to international schools in Dubai every lunch time through their newest venture, Bloom catering.
The sky most certainly is the limit for this dynamic duo. To hear from this inspirational husband and wife team themselves click here to view our Facebook Live chat that went viral – with more than 9,000 people drawn in by Kate & Henry’s amazing.
