When life gets busy, the last thing you want to do is cook.  Gone are the days of takeaway options being limited to pizza, chinese or deep fried food from a fast food joint.

Here are our picks for the best healthy lunch and dinner meals to go – yep, you have our permission to take a break from the kitchen tonight.

Naked Chicks in Windsor
We love what the folks at this nude food shop are doing to provide healthy, nutritious meals in a flash. Organic, free range roast chook and fresh salad for dinner with one of their homemade sauces (our fave is the raw cashew aoli) will never go astray, you’ll never want to cook again!

Sauced Pasta Bar in Windsor and Camberwell
Traditional pasta is the ultimate comfort food, but we all know that sometimes it’s not so comfortable on your stomach… that’s where Sauced comes in. You have the option to swap pasta for zucchini strips, or a vegetable medley of thinly sliced mixed veggies to have with your pasta sauce. You may think it can’t possibly get better than that, but they also deliver within a 5km radius of their two stores.

About Life in Bay Street, Port Melbourne
As well as being the best supermarket chain in Australia, in the eyes of us here at OMG, About Life has an amazing healthy takeaway offering too. From hot broths and soups, to rotisserie chickens (that are half price on Tuesdays) and a buffet with a plethora of options for breaky, lunch and dinner – from yoghurts / fruit salads to chia puddings, salads, and hot veggie and meat dishes.  Everything at About Life is organic, ethically and sustainable sourced and free from preservatives and artificial sweeteners. We can only hope that one day every supermarket in Australia will be like this.

This fish and chipper without is making waves across Melbourne. Their $10 lunch specials are easy on the wallet and the stomach… we always opt in for the Blue Grenadier with brown rice and asian slaw.

Fonda Mexican in the CBD, Hawthorn, Richmond and Windsor
Melburnians love Fonda for their fresh and authentic flavours and with their full menu available for takeaway you can’t really go wrong.  Their deconstructed salad (or the Mex-Bim-Bap) is perfect for a weeknight meal on the couch.

Yong Green Food in Brunswick
Yong Green Food’s menu is one of the tastiest places to get your five veggies a day. The is menu vegetarian and vegan, and it’s an institution with local health foodies thanks to its impressive selection of Asian inspired food, extensive healthy drinks menu (elixirs, tonics, herbal teas, smoothies) and raw desserts.

Tofu Shop International in Richmond
Another Melbourne institution, a visit to Richmond isn’t complete without calling into tofu shop, with their amazing array of veggies and tofu cooked in different sauces.  The best thing about Tofu Shop is you can cram as many different dishes into your takeaway container as you like! .

Bento box at Wabi Sabi

Bento box at Wabi Sabi

Wabi Sabi Salon and Garden, St Kilda and Collingwood
These authentic Japanese eateries serve a Bento box you would expect from Tokyo… and you can get the dinner bento takeaway to enjoy from the comfort of your own home. We recommend the Grilled Black Cod bento… it’s to die for!

Shakahari Too in Carlton and South Melbourne
We’re big fans of Shakahari too – another wonderful option for getting your five a day with their vegetarian menu. We love the Riso Rico, a vegan, non-dairy and gluten free risotto with red bean balls of swede and quinoa flakes dressed in a mustard quince sauce… yes, we’re drooling too.

Palate in Prahran
This paleo cafe on Greville Street has the perfect takeaway option for lunch goers –  the ‘create your own meal’ give you the choice of five or seven items  – you pick your veg and your protein. Our favourite is the cauliflower rice… it’s oh so tasty!

Misuzus in Middle Park
Lunch and dinner takeaway options are available at this Japanese restaurant, where the options are plentiful and all rice can be replaced with a brown rice serving. They’re also famous for their beautiful Sakes, so there’s no judgement if you take a bottle home to enjoy with your meal!

The Beatt in Armadale
If you’re hungry on a weekday, they do an amazing take away roast chook (organic of course), and a variety of salads which is sure to hit the spot!
