There’s so much to love about Byron Bay, but being a self confessed health-nut, the food  is easily my favourite.   After much deliberation, I’ve managed to pick my top 5 local foodie spots that embody everything Byron is about – seasonal, local, wholefood that nourishes the body from the inside out.

The Roadhouse

If you follow my Instagram account you will know that I spend a lot of time at the Roadhouse, and for good reason. “The Roady” is a rustic local café by day and an American Whisky bar (with a Byron Bay twist) by night. It’s where the locals rub shoulders with the travelling food enthusiasts, the savvy entrepreneurs of the region as well as a number of social media celebrities.

The young and incredibly passionate team of people behind “The Roady” has dedicated a lot of time sourcing the highest-grade, naturally grown, local produce. They believe in sustainable farming and ensuring patrons not only enjoy the highest quality food, but also healing elixirs and ‘medicinal’ cocktails with a twist. You’ll I be back again and again. The Roady is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, their specials menu changes regularly.

CATERS FOR: Paleo, Gluten Intolerant, Dairy Intolerant, Vegan and Vegetarian.

MY PERSONAL FAVOURITES: Fish Tacos (Lunch), the Nourishing Bowl, Sunday Night Slow-Cooked Roast, any of the Roady Signature Cocktails.

The Farm

When it comes to sustainable food, ‘The Farm’ not only talks the talk, but also walks the walk. The Farm itself incorporates a number of ventures, but the true hero (aside from the views sweeping the right across the Byron Hinterland to the Cape Byron Lighthouse) is the onsite restaurant ‘Three Blue Ducks’. The forever changing menu is inspired by the farm’s own produce, as well as a bounty of the regions best. As soon as you walk through the barn door, you won’t want to leave.

Stop by for breakfast, or grab a coffee (one of my favorites in Byron) and a fresh organic pastry from onsite organic bakery. Enjoy lunch on the deck or kick back on Sunday’s with live music, a glass of rose. Still not sold? Order a hamper online, bring your rug, take a stroll around the grounds and set yourself up with friends and family for a picnic in the gorgeous fields. There is also a great playground for the kids as well as the chance to interact with the farm animals – yes, they have thought of everything.

Menu changes regularly, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

CATERS FOR: Paleo, Gluten Intolerant, Dairy Intolerant, Vegan and Vegetarian.

MY FAVOURITE:  Enjoy the live music on a Sunday and kick back on the verandah with a glass of rose, before settling in with a group of friends for dinner.

Doma Cafe

When I say this is quite possibly the best Japanese I have ever had, I mean it. Just a quick Instagram search for #domacafe will show you what you’re in for – Japanese with a Byron Bay twist; it’s fresh, it’s tasty and will have you coming back again and again. Doma Café is located in Federal, a short drive from Byron and is the perfect spot for lunch. All produce is sourced from the local markets and prepared on site. This is fresh Japanese food at it’s best. We love this place!

CATERS FOR: Gluten Intolerant, Dairy Intolerant, Vegan and Vegetarian.

MY FAVOURITES: Sushi of the day, Eggplant Miso, Miso soup and more.

Bay Leaf You can’t go past Bay Leaf for coffee, they serve up a local Marvel Street blend regularly, which impresses even the toughest coffee critic. If the breakfast crowds are anything to go by, you won’t be disappointed. They are a favorite amongst locals and tourists alike.

CATERS FOR: Paleo, Gluten Intolerant, Dairy Intolerant, Vegan and Vegetarian.

MY FAVOURITES: Coffee and breakfast is my favorite. They have also opened a new ‘grab and go’ set up next door called ‘Leaf and Grain’, for those on the run – their salads look amazing.

Naked Treaties

Naked Treaties is famous for their raw desserts and quite possibly the LONGEST list of organic smoothies known to mankind. If that’s not enough to tempt you, they have also extended their lunch menu to include a range of raw organic options like that of raw pizza, raw falafel wraps, raw zucchini spaghetti Bolognese and green veggie bowls. There are some seats available, but this is more of a grab and go kind of set-up.

CATERS FOR: Paleo, Gluten Intolerant, Dairy Intolerant, Vegan and Vegetarian.

MY FAVOURITES: “I am Cool” (choc mint) smoothie, Raw Snickers cake, Falafel Wraps, Organic Chai on Almond milk with a splash of turmeric.
